PhD Mensa!

Since April, there’s been a table in the Ernst-Abbe Mensa—above and behind the main staircase and next to the elevator—where PhD students have a slightly better chance of running into colleagues; after all, we often don’t look much different from students. The table is always marked, but we especially aim to be there on Thursdays around 1:00 p.m.

If you want to be sure to be recognized as a PhD candidate, you can download our app and even send your location to the room via Bluetooth—or receive ours when we’re in the cafeteria!

Release of our Android app. 

Starting April 2, 2026, you can download the app to your Android phone so you never miss an event again.

In this initial release, the app has been kept intentionally simple. Please let us know which features you’d like to see improved or expanded!

Winter aconite hiking event!

March 1st; 12:50. Bus line 15 (Teichgraben); alternative you may take line 16 directly to Closewitz a bit later to skip the hiking part.

The hike was a lot of fun and so was the reward: Thousands of little yellow flowers everywhere.

Gemütlicher Abend in der OFF Bar.

Im Anschluss an den Promovierenden und PostDoc Day treffen wir uns um etwa 20:00 Uhr in der OFF Bar neben der Stadtkirche um den Abend informell und entspannt ausklingen zu lassen. Alle Doktoranden sind herzlich eingeladen, egal ob Ihr beim offizielleren Teil dabei wart oder nicht.

Survey Information Event

The evaluation of the survey on working conditions for doctoral students at FSU has been completed. In this event, we will highlight the main findings we have drawn from the data and discuss our recommendations for action with the participants.

Promovierenden und PostDoc Day

Am Donnerstag, 29. Januar 2026, findet der Promovierenden- und Postdoc-Tag an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena statt. Der Tag gibt allen Promotionsinteressierten, Promovierenden und Postdocs die Möglichkeit, sich über wichtige Themen und Angebote zu informieren, die sie bei ihrer Forschung unterstützen. 

Wir sind auch vor Ort um Eure Fragen zu beantworten und am Abend mitzudiskutieren!

A sense of celebration

On November 25, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Haus zur Rosen, we—and all doctoral students in a festive mood—will meet for a cozy evening with (cheap) Secret Santa - "Schrottwichteln" (if you want to participate, you have to bring something!) - and homemade cookies (please bring some too!). We welcome any doctoral students who would like to spend a relaxed, quiet evening with us.

PhD Welcome Event 2025

On October 30th, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the general welcome event for new doctoral students at FSU will take place. We will of course be there with an information booth and a presentation to welcome all new doctoral students and provide them with information about us.
